Here’s a good piece by the Immigration Policy Institute about what a merit-based portion of the proposed immigration bill will probably look like.
This is a great blog post critical of the recent “migration is beautiful” meme. Give it a read! - alexandria
Am I the only one that is annoyed with these damn butterflies? (just fyi this is not to criticize Faviana’s art. i am a big fan of her women’s rights posters)

The Freedom of the Press Foundation today released an audio recording of Bradley Manning’s statement to the court. From their release:
Today, Freedom of the Press Foundation is publishing the full, previously unreleased audio recording of Private First Class Bradley Manning’s speech to the military court in Ft. Meade about his motivations for leaking over 700,000 government documents to WikiLeaks. In addition, we have published highlights from Manning’s statement to the court.
While unofficial transcripts of this statement are available, this marks the first time the American public has heard the actual voice of Manning.
Powerful stuff.

Francis Moore Lappe, writing for Yes Magazine and other journals, has been a frequent source on many inspiring food-related stories, like the story of how the town of Belo Horizonte decided to “outlaw hunger,” and succeeded!
What’s so interesting about Lappe’s work and analysis is the powerful connection she makes between feeding everyone and democracy. In the article linked above, “What India taught Me About How to End Hunger,” Lappe writes, “Hunger is not caused by a scarcity of food but by a scarcity of democracy.” Yes!!!
